10 ways to make your home more merry.

The most wonderful time of the year is here, and nothing makes the holidays merrier than a cozy, festive home. But not everyone has the time or energy to spend countless hours turning their home into the North Pole. That’s why we’re giving you some incredibly quick tricks that’ll make your home the cheeriest house on the block.

Advent calendars.

There’s no better way to kick-off the holidays than treating yourself every day of the month with an advent calendar. Whether it’s chocolate, small toys or even bath and body minis (*gasps with excitement*), there’s a special joy in waking up each day knowing there’s a delightful surprise waiting for you.

Light a holiday scented candle.

Literally nothing is easier and it is surprisingly effective in kindling some holiday spirit. Go for scents like pine, spruce tree or warm baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, and use a holiday candle holder to really set the mood.

Decorate cookies.

Bake or pick up some sugar cookies and go to jingle town. Get the whole family involved for some sweet memories that are sure to last way longer than the cookies will.

Holiday music.

The most mundane things can suddenly become magical with the right background music. Throw on your favorite holiday tunes while cleaning, organizing or cooking and see if you can help yourself from smiling from ear to ear.

Decorate the Christmas tree.

This one seems like a no-brainer, but you can make it extra special by making a game of it. Let everyone try to remember the story behind each ornament or start your own Christmas pickle tradition. Unfamiliar with the tradition of the Christmas pickle? It’s simple. Just hide a pickle ornament in the tree and the first person to find it on Christmas morning gets a special prize.

Make the exterior of your home shine.

Setting up extensive holiday lights can be intimidating but a little can really go a long way. Pick up a wreath, some mini trees and even lawn ornaments already strung with lights to make your house pop in the easiest way possible. Gilbert is well-known for its glowing holiday spirit after all!

Wrap presents.

While this can’t really be done in a group setting, it’s always a perfect little holiday moment you can have all to yourself. Put them under the tree right after you’re done and watch the kids’ eyes light up.

Go caroling.

The best way to spread holiday cheer is to sing loud for all to hear (yes, we just quoted Elf). Seriously, gather your neighbors, fill your mugs with your favorite libations and have a total blast singing your favorite holiday classics. And just imagine how fun caroling will be next year with all your new neighbors in your new home.

If reading this list inspired holiday anxiety, don’t worry. Doing even just a few of these simple tricks will make your holiday—and your home—merry beyond belief.
