Living Like a Local at The Lakes at AnnecyPosted 01/31/2019
With the Feb. 9 grand opening of The Lakes at Annecy just days away, it’s the perfect time to get an insider’s perspective on life at our newest Gilbert community. We sat down with Christian Colegrove, a Maracay New Home Advisor who grew up in the Southeast Valley, to learn how a local would take advantage of the many shopping, dining, recreational and entertainment opportunities that surround The Lakes at Annecy.
Read on for Christian’s tips on where to spend your weekends and evenings, from dining and shopping to hiking and golfing:
The Lakes at Annecy is close to so many fun places to shop. Where would you go for a Saturday afternoon shopping spree?
One great thing about The Lakes at Annecy is that within a mile radius there are so many places to spend an afternoon shopping. With SanTan Village mall across the street, I can head over to Dillard’s to get new clothes for work, Banana Republic or Nordstrom Rack for casual wear, and Dick’s Sporting Goods for golf and workout clothes. In addition, my wife seems to make a visit to the brand new HomeGoods on a weekly basis (sometimes more!) to accessorize our home.
Gilbert is getting more and more local dining spots. Where would you send a foodie for a Friday night dinner?
Fortunately, a foodie has many great places to choose from in the area. If I’m craving sit-down Mexican food, I would head over to Isabel’s Amor at the NWC of Val Vista and Williams Field, or if I wanted a great local sports bar then I’d head to Blue 32, which is right next to Isabel’s Amor, or the Thirsty Lion at SanTan Village; all of these are a mile from the Lakes at Annecy. If I’m looking for a more formal meal, I would head over to either The Keg at SanTan Village, or Firebirds. For the best seafood in the Southeast Valley, I’d recommend High Tide Seafood, which is right across the street from the community.
What’s close by for a dose of art and culture?
Being only 10 minutes from Downtown Gilbert, it’s a short drive to go see a play at the Hale Centre, or to walk through the Gilbert Historical Museum. You’re also 10 minutes away from seeing a movie at the new Flix Brewhouse in Downtown Chandler, or less than a mile from the Harkins Theater at SanTan Village.
Where’s your favorite place in Gilbert to go for a hike, jog or bike?
Since I wasn’t blessed with great endurance, my favorite place to get some cardio in is at Discovery Park, where there is a short trail I can run with two scenic lakes and many benches and covered ramadas where I can catch my breath. Great news is Discovery Park is only a mile away from The Lakes at Annecy, so maybe you can catch me there before my workday.
Where do you go for a slice of pizza when you live at The Lakes at Annecy?
Having lived in the area my whole life, I can definitely tell you where and where not to grab a slice! A great quick slice during lunchtime can be had at either Barro’s or Venezia’s, or if you’re looking for a sit-down pizza dinner, you can head over to Grimaldi’s at SanTan Village.
Are there any golf courses or driving ranges nearby?
Being an avid golfer, it’s a big draw to have a Top Golf out in the East Valley, and fortunately it’s only a few minutes away from The Lakes at Annecy. Some local courses in the area are Western Skies, San Marcos or Toka Sticks.
Where can you go for a date night by foot or bike?
After consulting with my better half, we decided that the best date night would consist of an early dinner at Firebirds, followed by a movie and popcorn at Harkins, but leaving enough room for some Frost Gelato after the show.
Where will the kids’ favorite place be for weekend fun?
Once my four-month-old baby girl grows up, my wife and I will love taking her to play at Main Event, to learn how to ice skate at AZ Ice Gilbert, or to cruise around Freestone Park and Railroad.
Where should a resident go to check off the weekly grocery list?
There are so many different grocery stores within a mile from the community that it’s tough to decide where would be the best place to shop! Less than a mile away you can shop at Sprouts or Natural Grocers to get the best produce, or Costco to get the 300 pack of paper towels you didn’t know you needed. Also, rumor has it that the Trader Joe’s just north of The Lakes at Annecy will be opening in less than two months!
Is there a nearby spot for my four-legged-friend to run and play?
There is a great place called Cosmo Dog Park by the Loop 202 and Ray where you can let your puppy run loose. Since I have a slow-moving 17-year-old dog who is a few years past his prime, a casual stroll on the walking paths at The Lakes at Annecy community would be better suited for him.
What’s the best place to go to for Wine Wednesday?
Some of the more popular places to go for a glass of wine are The Whining Pig, Postino East and The White Rabbit Bar. They’re a short drive away from The Lakes at Annecy—and they all have a great happy hour too, if you need to get Wine Wednesday started early!
What is your favorite thing about living in Gilbert?
I love the town of Gilbert because even though it continues to grow, the Town is still able to retain much of its small-town charm. Living in Gilbert really does promote a healthy, active, family-centered lifestyle, which is appealing to both young and old.
