To help you get acquainted with this vibrant Chandler neighborhood, we sat down with our New Home Advisors Aimee Gabriel and Verna Lyons to learn about their favorite places to live like a local:
What’s your favorite event in Chandler?
The Chandler Chamber Ostrich Festival is an annual event that everyone looks forward to. It has been around for over 30 years, and is a time-honored tradition held at Tumbleweed Park. This year it is scheduled for March 8-10. The festival’s theme is a tribute to Chandler’s colorful early history of ostrich ranching and features live ostrich races as its signature activity. Also, it has big-time carnival rides and games, great entertainment and concerts, great food, arts and crafts, and a variety of other fun activities.
Where’s your favorite place to grab a cup of coffee?
BLD at Germann & Dobson (1920 W. Germann Road, Chandler, AZ 85286) is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast. It’s locally owned and serves farm fresh foods made from scratch in a bright, contemporary atmosphere that’s so cheery. BLD (Breakfast Lunch Dinner) is definitely the latest South Chandler dining destination. It features over-sized roll-up windows overlooking a spacious, welcoming outdoor patio as well as a convenient drive-thru window for barista-made beverages, protein shakes and smoothies.
Where’s the best place to go for a hike?
The Paseo Trail is a great place to walk, run, rollerblade — you name it! It’s a multi-use concrete pathway on the eastern side of the Consolidated Canal in east Chandler that runs for 6.5 miles. The western side of the canal offers a rugged, dirt terrain that can be used for horseback riding or bicycling. The trail begins at Galveston Street and continues south to Riggs Road. It’s great for those who enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle in Arizona.
Where’s your favorite gym or place to get a good workout in?
Ocotillo Village Health Club and Spa has everything you need not only for a great workout, but also for a great social environment with plenty of events and activities, pools, a kids club, and more. Located at the southwest corner of Alma School and Ocotillo roads (4200 S. Alma School Road Chandler, AZ 85248), the Ocotillo club provides members a luxurious fitness facility with over 140 group fitness and yoga classes per week as well as professional trainers who are ready to assist members in achieving their fitness goals. In addition to top-of-the-line workout equipment, the health club features traditional and hot yoga studios, a pilates reformer studio, a lap and leisure pool, a basketball court, squash and racquetball courts, a café, full-amenity locker rooms and even a resort-style day spa.
When it comes to a good slice of pizza, where’s your go to?
We LOVE Floridino’s Pizza and Pasta at 590 N. Alma School Road. It is a wonderful family owned pizza joint, with the must-try pizza muffins. Everything is delicious and fresh. You can’t go wrong.
Where’s your favorite park for a Saturday afternoon picnic?
Tumbleweed Park is one of many great parks in Chandler, located at Germann & McQueen (2250 S. McQueen Road, Chandler, AZ 85286). The most notable area is Playtopia, which is a 2.5-acre playground and picnic area within Tumbleweed Park. There’s no better place to spend time with the family on a sunny afternoon, making memories. There’s also a great recreational center, tennis center and Tumbleweed Ranch Museum operated by Chandler Museum which explores Chandler’s historic beginnings.
What will the kids’ favorite place be?
The kids really enjoy spending time at Hamilton Aquatic Center (3838 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, AZ 85248). This is one of six award-winning aquatic centers within Chandler and offers two water slides, two 1-meter diving boards, play pool with interactive water play feature and so much more.
Where is the best place to spend a paycheck?
It’s easy to spend the day away (literally) at the Phoenix Premium Outlets off I-10 and Pecos Road (4976 Premium Outlet Way, Chandler, AZ 85226), with its pleasant environment and multitude of shops and eateries. Or if you are looking for a traditional mall setting, check out Chandler Fashion Center (Loop 101 & Chandler Boulevard) for great shops, dining, and movies.
Where is your four-legged friend’s favorite place to let loose?
There are several dog parks within Chandler, but we love the Paseo Vista Recreation Area at Ocotillo and McQueen roads (3850 S. McQueen Road). This park offers a place for man’s best friend to run free and play to their heart’s content.
What’s your favorite local restaurant for happy hour or dinner?
You will have a great time at The Brickyard in Downtown Chandler. With the creative professional mixologists, eclectic menu and cool vibe in the nostalgic Downtown Chandler area, this is a top happy hour and dinner destination.
Where is your favorite date night spot?
When date nights are rare and cherished, you want to spend them having the most fun. We’ve found that Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is just the place for that! Located at 4955 S. Arizona Avenue, this is the perfect place to dine, drink, relax and enjoy a flick.
