Labor Free Labor Day

Labor Free Labor Day

Labor Day Party To many, Labor Day signifies the end of summer. And, though the heat may not be following suit quite yet here in Arizona, one thing still rings true: Labor Day is a time for American workers everywhere to celebrate family, freedom and whatever else takes the mind off the rush of daily life.

From backyard grilling to poolside parties, Labor Day gatherings have become a tradition that dates back nearly as far as the holiday itself. But with home entertaining comes a lot of hard work, preparation and cleaning — three activities no one wants to take part in on any holiday. At Maracay Homes, we believe nobody should have to break their back for holiday fun, so we’ve compiled a few tips to help make this year’s Labor Day a little more labor free:

Plan Ahead: Last minute holiday planning can add unnecessary stress. To keep your worries to a minimum, plan your Labor Day party far in advance. Decide on what type of food you’ll serve, what activities you’ll provide and how many guests are coming weeks, or days before the big day. Once you’ve planned it all out, keep your eyes open for food deals and coupons. While most of the deals will be on the weekend of Labor Day, some will go on sale earlier. If you plan accordingly, you’ll not only save a lot of money but have more time to enjoy the festivities.

Go Disposable: The last thing anyone wants to do after a day of grilling and entertaining is clean. While cleaning is inevitable, using disposable plates, silverware and cups will considerably cut down on the time it takes to get your place back in order. Instead of an hour or two of washing dishes, spend just a couple of minutes taking out the garbage. Look for an eco-friendly brand using recycled materials to cut down on waste while you’re at it.

Keep the Kids (and Adults) Happy: Whether it’s activities or games, make sure you have plenty of things to do for kids. Nothing ends a party faster than a house full of unhappy children. If you don’t have a pool, go to the local sports store and pick up a Frisbee, soccer ball or other active toys. While you’re at it, pick up some toys for the adults, too. Horseshoes, badminton, darts and croquet are all inexpensive ways to keep adults having fun all day long. The more there is to do for everyone, the less time you’ll have to spend being the entertainment.

Keep the Food Simple: Rather than working hard to ensure all the food is ready at once, prepare some of the food ahead of time and add it to a buffet-style setting. This will give you more time to socialize when the party starts, and it allows your guests to eat throughout the day. Also, keep your food simple with easy-to-make recipes like these hot-and-ready mini ham sandwiches or these easily assembled sausage, prosciutto and mozzarella kabobs. As we mentioned before, keeping the kids happy is key to party success, so offer treats especially for them like these frozen watermelon pops. And finally, for the adults, try your hand at some simple rum cocktails to keep the blistering heat at bay all day long.
