With long, sunny days on the horizon and no school for the kids, summer is the perfect time of year to kick back, relax and unwind from our busy lifestyles. Fortunately, Arizona is a haven for all things outdoors.
Here’s a list of our favorite summertime adventures the whole family can enjoy.
Salt River Tubing
Every day, 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Price: $17 per tube rental and shuttle service
Grab your friends, family and floats for a lazy day of tubing down the famous Salt River in the beautiful Tonto National Forest, near Mesa. This recreational paradise is the perfect way to enjoy a “floating picnic” or simply bask in the Arizona sunshine. Floaters can choose two-, three- or five-hour trips.
Summer Safari Nights
Every Friday, May 19 – August 4
Price: $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children ages 2-14
Reid Park Zoo’s Summer Safari Nights in Tucson are back and better than ever. Join the community every Friday night for various activities, including live music, camel rides, animal encounters, wild activities and much more. Bring a blanket and purchase dinner or snacks, then enjoy a picnic with the family while listening to some live tunes.
Westgate Wednesdays: Free Kid Summer Series
Every Wednesday, June 7 – July 26
6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Let the summer fun begin with evenings of music, games, prizes and much more. Every Wednesday, Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale will feature a new theme and offer families a chance to hang out with their favorite film characters. Kick back with Wonder Woman on June 7, enjoy a pirate party with Belle and Rapunzel on June 14, or get Frozen Fever with Anna and Elsa on June 21. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit to cool off, splash and play in the nearby splash pad before, during and after the events.
Free Family Weekends at Phoenix Art Museum
June 10 & 11, July 8 & Jul 9, August 12 & 13
Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 – 5 p.m.
The Phoenix Art Museum is offering free admission the second weekend of each month all summer long. Family-friendly activities will include scavenger hunts, live performances, hands-on activities and more. This exciting opportunity is the perfect fit for the entire family and assured fun for all.
Downtown Chandler Art Walk
3rd Friday of each month beginning on June 16
6 – 10 p.m.
Looking for a new Friday night activity? The Chandler Art Walk provides a fun, family atmosphere filled with plenty of art and live music. Come share the excitement with more than 35 local artists from a variety of mediums, including woodworking, jewelry-making, painting and more.
Dash for Dad 5K
Saturday, June 17
Price: $10 – $25
Calling all dads! Grab your kids and head outside for this fun, 3.2-mile walk/run around the scenic Rillito River Path in Tucson. It’s the perfect way to kick off Father’s Day weekend. And, even Moms are welcome too!
