In Your Neighborhood: July

Posted 06/28/2017

The 4th of July is fast approaching, along with poolside barbecues, fireworks and tons of outdoor fun. But the excitement doesn’t have to stop when the last sparkler fizzles out. There are plenty of summer activities to take advantage of all month long.

Here are a few events we’re looking forward to attending:

July 4th Tempe Town Lake Festival
Tuesday, July 4, starting at 5 p.m.
Located at Tempe Beach Park, this festivity has all the fixings for family fun, including an inflatable village with a variety of rides, a rock-climbing wall, and a food court filled with plenty of tasty options. Stick around for Tempe’s annual Fireworks Spectacular, which will launch from the iconic Mill Avenue Bridge with musical accompaniment. The event is free for children 12 and under. $5 regular admission.

Christmas in July
Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Who says Christmas only comes around once a year? Visitors to Old Town and Catlin Court on July 8 will get to put that theory to rest when Santa Claus comes to town. The family friendly event will also feature sweet treats, activities, holiday crafts and much more. Be sure to stop by the Glendale Visitor Center first to get a map and more details on all the holiday cheer.

Star Party and Sky Watch at the Observatory
Friday, July 14, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
When it’s too hot to go outside during the daytime, make a night of it, instead. Enjoy an evening of start gazing and fun with members of the East Valley Astronomy Club. Event is subject to cancellation due to weather. The event is free, but donations are welcome.

Queen Creek
Glow Party at the Splash Pad
Saturday, July 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Queen Creek invites families of all ages to come and play at the 2017 Glow Party at the Splash Pad, located at Founder’s Park. Participants can look forward to a night of glow-in-the-dark fun and games, including dark bowling, food, music and more.

Loft Kids Fest
Saturday, July 22, through Sunday, July 30, beginning at 10 a.m.
Loft Kids Fest by The Loft Cinema is back for its 11th year and the lineup of films is sure to please. The best part, the movies are absolutely free. Did we mention the popcorn is free, too? So beat the heat this summer and enjoy family-friendly animated shorts and films, games, hands-on activities, live performances, giveaways and much more. Doors open at 9:15 a.m.

Escape the Library – Family Edition
Saturday, July 22, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Do you enjoy testing your wits by solving puzzles and clues? Put your family to the challenge at the Hamilton Public Library’s own Escape Room game, Escape the Library, and see if you can make it out in time. Game is suitable for ages 8 and up.
