Bold predictions, innovative products and fresh ideas all seemed to outnumber the more than 7,000 participants at this year’s Pacific Coast Builder’s Conference (PCBC). One of the largest housing industry events in North America, PCBC 2014 brought together influential residential builders, developers, architects, building scientists, lenders, investors, marketers and product manufacturers for two full days of collaboration at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The world-renowned event featured a variety of educational forums, exclusive networking venues, a curated exhibit floor experience, product “matchmaking” sessions and much more. While the event was jammed-full of highlights, we must first mention how proud we are that Maracay Homes took home an Award of Merit from the 51st Annual Gold Nugget Awards for our West Valley community The Reserve at Plaza Del Rio. While we didn’t need the award to convince our residents they chose the right home, it still feels good.

Now that we got that off our chest, here are few key takeaways from PCBC 2014:

Home design trends

It’s no surprise to us that flexible floor plans were a major trend at PCBC 2104. Traditional home buying continues to shift from standard-size homes to larger homes with open floor plans that can accommodate the preferences of people who recently have entered the market. While this trend is just picking up steam, we can proudly say that Maracay Homes has been offering flexible floor plans for quite some time. Our signature FlexDesign® options allow home buyers to customize each home to meet their individual needs, from the location of the electrical outlets to the number of doors and walk-in closets; and in some cases, the size and placement of rooms.

Other notable design trends include premier building forms, strong indoor/outdoor connections, eclectic material palettes and sustainable living designs, all of which Maracay offers at any of our Tucson– and Phoenix-area neighborhoods. With Energy Star® certified homes that feature spacious great rooms, walk-in pantries, secret passageway from laundry to master closet, bonus rooms, 3-car garages, and inviting exteriors with wrap-around porches, we have options to fit any lifestyle. We also offer plans with the generational suites everyone is talking about these days.

Neighborhood trends

Builders are beginning to promote healthier living through walkable neighborhood designs that are conducive to outdoor pedestrian activity as opposed to neighborhoods built for vehicles in mind. With baby boomers looking to stay active in their twilight years, developers are building communities with walkable neighborhoods and access to outdoor activities. This idea is something we’ve strived for at Maracay Homes since we began building more than 20 years ago. Our neighborhoods are scattered throughout the high-demand areas of Phoenix and Tucson and offer thousands of homesites within close proximity to a variety of active lifestyle amenities, including desert hiking, golf courses, equestrian centers, sports complexes, grassy picnic areas, nature preserves, parks and much more. Maracay Homes is committed to healthy living and it shows through the neighborhoods we build.
